Mega Energy currently holds the least amount of complaints among all retail electricity providers in Texas. We check the PUCT and Power To Choose website to find REP’s we wish to work with that offer straight forward electricity rates and pricing. Mega Energy is a clear complaint free company when comparing them against multiple other electricity providers in Texas that have multiple complaints against them in regards to electricity price, customer service, and other issues. Mega Energy shows the lowest complaint score among all REP’s operating in Texas according to the Power To Choose state run website. A few months ago we noticed that Mega had accidentally listed a small commercial terms of service sheet on Power To Choose instead of their residential terms of service and had assumed since it was linked to their residential electricity rate it was a TOS for their residential electricity rate.

We asked the PUCT and Mega Energy for clarification and were told that it was inadvertently put on their residential rate quote on the Power to Choose site. After Mega made the clarification and replaced the commercial TOS with their residential terms of service the electricity rate made sense and nothing looked disagreeable about their electricity rate. In fact Mega Energy currently offers competitive residential electricity rates and has the lowest complaint record in the Texas retail electricity market at this time according to the Power to Choose scorecard.

We would like to take this time to recommend Mega Energy as a quality Texas electricity company and affordable electric service company based on information we have researched on the Power to Choose website. We believe based on past customer satisfaction with Mega Energy that you will be happy when switching to this electricity company.

As of August 27 2009 Mega Energy currently offers a 10.7 cent per kWh 12 month fixed electricity rate in the Dallas and North North East area of Texas. Mega Energy is offering a rate of 10.6 cents per kWh for a 12 month fixed electricity rate in the Houston Texas area. You can sign up with Mega at megaenergy.com and learn more about other electricity rate plans they have to offer. You may also compare Mega Energy with several other residential electricity companies in the Houston area by visiting compare Houston electricity rates.

StarTex Power was founded on the pillar of superior customer service in 2004, and since then the company has seen more than 3,000 percent growth. StarTex knows that the real key to success is customer satisfaction, and that is why the company has made customer-centric focus its top priority.

StarTex Power Ranked Highest by J.D. Power and Associates in Customer Satisfaction Among Texas Electricity Providers HOUSTON – (August 20, 2009) – StarTex Power, the leading retail electricity provider in Texas, has been recognized as the company with the highest level of customer satisfaction among all electricity retailers in the state, according to the J.D. Power and Associates’ 2009 Texas Residential Retail Electric Provider Customer Satisfaction StudySM.

The second annual study measures customer satisfaction by examining four key factors: pricing, billing and payment, communications and customer service. Overall satisfaction among residential customers of electric retailers in Texas has decreased notably in 2009 to 629 on a 1,000-point scale, and driving this overall decline is decreased satisfaction with pricing. StarTex Power’s overall satisfaction score is 714, earning the company the highest score amongst its competitors. “We are honored to be recognized by our customers and J.D. Power and Associates for excellence in customer satisfaction – a trait that truly sets our company apart from others in the retail electricity space,” said Marcie Zlotnik, Chairman and COO, StarTex Power. “This recognition demonstrates our dedication to providing our customers with not only competitive rates, but also friendly people and the greatest in customer service.

We want to thank our customers for their support, and we look forward to serving them in the years to come.” This honor comes just one week after StarTex Power was ranked number 30 on the Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S., making it the fastest-growing private energy company in the nation. In addition, the company is Houston’s 2008 fastest-growing woman-owned business, as well as one of the city’s “Best Places to Work,” as designated by the Houston Business Journal. Earlier this year, company founders Bob and Marcie Zlotnik were named finalists for the Ernst and Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” award. “It takes a special kind of Company with unique and dedicated employees to be not only the fastest-growing private energy company in the country, but also the one with the highest ranked customer satisfaction in the state,” said Bob Zlotnik, President and CEO, StarTex Power.

“As we continue to expand, StarTex Power is committed to upholding and continually improving our customer service and support, a core value of our organization.” For information on how StarTex Power can provide the power to connect your home or business to competitive rates, great service and easy-to-read bills visit About StarTex Power StarTex Power, the leading retail electricity provider, gives its customers the power to connect to relatable people, competitive prices, transparent billing, as well as superior customer service.

At #30, StarTex is the fastest-growing private REP in the country. I think my blog readers would be interested in hearing how Bob and Marcie of Startex Power have grown a company in the middle of a recession. Their secret? Superior customer service, competitive electricity rates, and a customer-focused approach to everything they do.

We have had an early business relationship with Startex Power and chose them based on their ethically run business and electricity rates. Startex Power has fixed electric prices that are clear and easy to understand for a customer visiting their energy website. During the evolution of Texas electricity deregulation we have never seen Startex deviate from their straightforward manner in offering electricity prices in Texas that are easy to understand for the layman. As some providers in the market place have attempted to take advantage of customer confusion in regards to electricity price Startex has continued to offer clear all in bundled electricity rates on their website. We are proud to offer Startex Power as one of the cheapest and most ethical Texas energy brands on our website.

Below is some more information about Startex Power’s success in the United States of America’s free market system.

Inc.
Don’t Just Go With Big Brand Name But Find a Cheap Rate With a Good Company

When signing up with a Houston electricity provider you likely heard a radio ad or saw a billboard with what appeared to be low price for electricity service. Some Houston electricity providers will show one rate on their main page of their website or on a billboard but when you receive your first months electricity bill you find that your rate is a few cents higher. What has happened here? Did the Houston electricity provider lie to you about their energy service price? When you call the Houston electricity provider they will tell you that no they did not lie to you but in fact you will find that if your read the small fine print in the contract that under “Pricing” in the “Terms of Service” section there is a clause that says TDSP charges will be a separate charge past through and added on to the energy price they advertised to you. The Houston electricity provider will likely explain that they have no idea what the TDSP charges will be for your residential electric service because they are not the TDSP company but only pass through those charges on your electricity bill.

Unbundled Electricity Prices in Houston, Why is This Wrong?

The problem with the scenario above is that most all residential electricity prices in Houston will have a clear price from the electric provider that shows all fees and charges in the bundled rate including the TDSP charges. If other Houston electricity providers bundle in the TDSP charges why are there still a few energy companies that sell residential electric service in an unbundled advertised rate? There are a small few Houston electricity providers that simply leave the TDSP charges off of any of their up front ads like a billboard, google ad, Yahoo ad, or website published rate. These electricity companies show you a partial rate because they know you will not read the fine print of the energy contract or call the provider to determine what the cost of the additional TDSP pass through will be.

Why Do Some Houston Electricity Companies Defend The Unbundled Pricing Practice?

Is it really honest to deviate from the norm and advertise an unbundled electricity price when all your competitors advertise a bundled fixed electricity price that includes the TDSP charges? The providers that operate in this manner have trained the grunt level call center staff to argue that it is fair because they are not the TDSP company. We do not argue that the electricity provider in Houston is the Transmission and Distribution Service Provider as that company is Centerpoint Energy. We argue that the Houston electricity Company has knowledge of what the TDSP charges are on average and could easily bundle that into the electricity rate like all their competitors do to give a complete description of their Houston electricity price to all customers who come to their website.

Compare in a Clear Easy To Understand Price Comparison

Our comparison chart shows several low cost reputable electricity providers in Houston that include all fees and charges including the TDSP charges in a total bundled electricity rate. You will not be surprised with additional fees and charges added onto the electricity rate. You can compare with confidence using our electricity price comparison chart to pick the cheapest Houston electricity price available in your area. If you live outside Houston like in Victoria, Pearland, Katy or another Houston area city than you will find our comparison chart to help as well in finding the cheapest available offer. You can sign up online and most Houston electricity providers in our chart offer online bill pay and a way to track your usage online. If you are currently with Reliant Energy or have been hooked by a nice sounding TV ad or radio ad from TXU Energy than we recommend looking at some truly discount electricity rates that are a few cents lower than the bog brand energy companies.

If you live in Houston you are probably like me and have seen and heard the ads from Reliant Energy explaining how they are lowering their electricity prices up to 10%. What is weird about the advertisement is that it sounds almost like the people they are targeting with this ad are current Reliant Energy customers. It is like they want those customers to know that they are keeping their electricity prices in line with the rest of the market. I could be wrong about this as I have not been able to read the fine small print writing on the bottom of their billboard. The problem with the ad is that even if Reliant were to lower their electricity price they have on Power To Choose as of today for the Pearland Texas residential electric market it would change the electricity price for a Pearland energy consumer from 14 cents per kWh to 12.6 cents per kWh. This is still quite a few cents higher than several competitive Pearland Texas electricity companies offering some much cheaper electric rates.

Compare the Cheapest Pearland Texas Electricity Prices and Providers

If you live in or around Pearland Texas you can click on the compare link above and compare the cheapest reputable electric companies that are currently advertising electric rates that are a few cents cheaper than Reliant Energy Pearland. There is no need to go with a big name brand energy company like Reliant when you have a comparison site like this to go to. We have all fees and charges disclosed so you will not be signing up with a Pearland energy company that has a trick or gimmick built into the details of their contract. An energy consultant is available from our contact page if you have questions about the electricity price comparison chart or energy provider.

Reliant Energy Pearland is a good electricity company but their electricity prices just are not very competitive right now for some reason. The only 12 month fixed rate that were advertising with the state of Texas was 20% renewable energy while the rest was power generated from less clean sources. The fact that part of Reliant Energy’s electricity price is renewable could be why their 12 month fixed electricity rate is higher than usual. In comparison to Reliant Energy’s renewable plan you can instead sign up for a much cheaper renewable energy rate in Pearland Texas that is 100 % renewable. Why go with a 20 % renewable energy plan when you can sign up at 100 % clean energy and the rate is several cents cheaper?

Many may be surprised to hear this question but there are a few electric providers that make it very hard to know what you are agreeing to when signing their electric service agreement. To those I would like to say, Yes there are energy companies that do not have a practice of tricking their customers into an energy contract. The chart above provides reputable electric companies in Houston offering affordable offers with no tricks or gimmicks. All fees are disclosed and we would be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Please call to order: 1-800-971-4020

We do not mean to sound like a broken record but electric rates in Houston are low right now because natural gas prices remain at low price levels. With the hot summer approaching we do not think that the natural gas in storage will remain in large quantities and this means electric rates will be coming back up. In order to avoid waiting and signing up at 15 cents per kWh we recommend locking into a 1 year rate while prices are between 10 – 11 cents per kWh in the Houston area.

Once you find the right company and electric rate term you will want to click on the available sign up link and sign up online for the discount electricity offer. The Texas electric providers on our site disclose all fees and charges and you will not need to worry about being tricked or gimmicked into a misleading rate quote. There are no fuel surcharges or TDSP charges being left out of the rate. The providers even go so far to show you any and all monthly meter fees and most will even average these fees into the rate so you have absolutely no doubt what your Houston electric rate will be.

Examples of Houston Electric Companies That Can Be Trusted

For example, Champion Energy averages the monthly service fees into their fixed rate and makes this charge available on every page of the rate disclosure when signing up for electric service. It becomes extremely difficult to sign up with them and think you are going to be charged anything other than what they made clearly available to you.

Startex Powerlists their monthly meter charge as $4.99 if you use under 500 kWh a month. As long as you are over this amount you pay only their fixed electric rate and will not have to worry about a monthly service charge. Champion and Startex are very good about disclosing all fees on their websites so that nothing distracts the customer from the actual electricity rate they will see on their bill.

Bounce Energy explains a detailed description of their no contract rates as well as the electric rates they have fixed. Bounce has several alternative plans that will lock rates into a fixed rate in the summer but leave them variable the rest of the year. This type of rate allows low credit score customers or customers needing to sign up for a short term and then cancel to avoid early termination penalties. By signing up on a variable electric rate that has no cancellation penalty you have the flexibility of changing providers if you move homes or apartments. Bounce represents the most flexible option for those wanting a no contract or no deposit rate and they are very good about detailing out any and all charges.

Houston Energy Prices Are Down Today But What About Last Summer?

For those who do not remember last year during the summer a barrel of oil approached $140 dollars a barrel which was an all time record. Natural gas approached some record level prices as well which caused Houston electricity prices to range in price from 17 – 31 cents per kWh depending on the electric company you went with if you were renewing your electric contract at this time. US Energy Savings Corp also known as Just Energy were convincing people to sign up on a 5 year fixed rate during this time at around 15 – 16 cents per kWh. For those people who locked in at this price they would be kicking themselves during this summer of 2009, only 1 year later. Prices right now are in the 10 – 11 cents per kWh range for a 1 year fixed electric rate.

If you want to sign up on a longer term rate the price is about 10% higher. Today is Monday June 8th 2009 and prices have come down today but this may not last for long. Houston electric rates have been toying with coming back up the last few weeks with several up days. A barrel of oil has come up from a low of $35 a barrel to around $70 a barrel as of today. Last year natural gas and electricity prices followed oil prices up. If this trend continues especially heading into the summer it would make sense to go ahead and lock into a Houston electric rate before it gets any hotter.

Learn more about today’s Houston electricity prices – click here

Looking Back at Last Summers Electric Rates

Last year during the summer of 2008 the highest electric rate I had seen on anyone’s electric bill was for 31 cents per kWh. I actually saw this rate listed on a First Choice Energy bill and it seemed unreasonably high. Around this time there were rumors that First Choice Power was looking to sell their Texas retail electric provider business or simply move out of this market completely. As of 2009 First Choice Power is still selling electric service in Texas although their electric rates have come down from what appeared to be their all time high at 31 cents a kWh. It could have been that First Choice Electric Company simply did not hedge at a low time in the energy market and when energy prices spiked they had to sell at these high prices as they had bought too much energy at the wrong time in the market.

Highest Priced Residential Houston Electric Companies

Today there are still a few Houston electric companies that have extrodinarily high electric rates in comparison to everyone else and we would like to point these higher prices out to help consumers to stay away from price gouging. The electric rates in the chart below include all fees and charges but their prices are several cents higher than several discount electricity companies. Instead of being gouged by a higher Houston electric rate you should lock into a discount rate that has all fees and charges disclosed. By locking into a rate that discloses all charges as well as being cheap you can be confident about going into the Houston energy contract knowing there will be no surprises. Below you will find some of the highest prices for residential electricity in Houston. We recommend you avoid signing up with these residential energy companies at this time as you will be paying some of the highest prices in the Texas energy market.

Is Reliant Energy Really Cheaper?

I keep hearing these radio ads in Houston Texas about how Reliant Energy is lowering their Houston electricity rates by “up to 10%”. Ouch, up to 10%? How do I qualify to get all 10% in a reduction on my electricity rate? This was not disclosed but the ad went on to have multiple Reliant Energy employees talk about how much they like their job because they get to help people save money on their electricity bill. The funny thing about this is that after a few months now of hearing these ads on the radio I still notice that Reliant Energy isn’t anywhere near the cheapest Houston electricity provider. I will hand it to Reliant Energy of being a reputable electric company in Houston. Not all Houston electricity companies treat their customers right. In fact some electric companies down right trick their customers into what appears to be a cheap energy price to only go back and raise it higher after the first couple of electric bills are received.

Comparing With Cheaper Electric Rates and Providers

When deciding about choosing Reliant Energy because of a purportedly cheap new electric rate it is important to examine the facts. I checked with what the cheapest available 12 month fixed rate Reliant Energy was offering in the Houston area on the government energy site. Reliant Energy is currently offering a 14.1 cent per kWh rate. This is a few cents higher than some other reputable electricity companies in Houston we would recommend to our clients.

Comparison Chart Discloses All Fees and Charges

We have a comparison chart for Reliant Energy Houston customers that shows the cheapest available electric rates and plans in an apples to apples comparison. All fees and charges are displayed in an easy to compare chart. You simply click on the “Sign up” link to confirm the rate in your Houston service address. In just a few simple clicks you can sign up with the cheapest available electric provider online. The energy provider will approve you online and you will know exactly when your start date will be because Texas electric companies in our chart let you pick the start date.

Quick Move in Company We Recommend

If you need a quick move in as soon as same day than we recommend you call a Houston electric provider that specializes in quick move in service. Bounce Energy is the preferred provider for same do move in service. You can call them at: 1-866-945-8937
